Russian govt to see if data retention laws need amendments by Nov
VIENTIANE, Sep 8 (PRIME) -- The Russian government is analyzing controversial anti-terrorism laws, obliging telecom and Internet operators to store metadata and content of user’s activities, and will understand by November whether amendments are needed or not, Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov said Thursday.
“Operators, producers and the Industry and Trade Ministry are testing the laws…The picture will be clear by November,” Nikiforov said.
President Vladimir Putin said earlier in September that the government could amend the laws to make life easier for the business.
The laws oblige telecom operators and Internet companies to keep records of users’ activities and content of talks and correspondence. Companies must provide special services with an access to data upon demand.
